I’m Gluten Intolerant, who'd have known. Someone who’s pretty much survived on pasta and pastries during university. Someone who’s routinely bulked (gained weight) and cut (lost weight) on will for 5 years and thought he had as good an understanding of how his body reacts to food as anybody. Which drives the questions. How do you know if you're intolerant to anything if you’ve not been tested for it?
We see this everyday in regards to Xrays and MRIs. The general population only get tested when there’s a perceived problem and therefore only get answers once they've started to look for one. The research shows if people were XRAY’d and MRI’d routinely even when pain free they would show significant findings such as “wear and tear”, Disc prolapses, Osteoarthritis etc. Would that change the person's mindset and belief systems around their own health? Probably, and the same goes for our chemical health.
Following some changes in my energy, mood and so on I decided to see a functional health practitioner and have my chemical health assessed. Upon which, I found out many surprising but important things. Amongst which I am currently gluten intolerant. How long have I been gluten intolerant? Who knows, quite some time I imagine. Long before I started to notice the dips in energy and mood that's for sure. But because i didn't show any “classic” signs of bloating, flatulence etc ‘d have never suspected it.
Which led to my second thought. Even though if you asked me 12 months ago how your energy and mood I'd have said 10/10 and 8/10 respectively (yes I document this). How much better could I have felt if it had the information I have now, then?
For the sake of £150 I found out more about my chemical health and ways I can actively improve it through diet and supplementation than I ever knew. This information alone is not power. Much like a gun with no human to pull the trigger it is useless. Now it's my responsibility to take ACTION with that information and change my chemical health for the better.
Safe to say I have birthday ideas for all of my loved ones this year, it may not be glamorous but it will definitely change their lives.
