The 5 principles of Reiki and how you can apply them to your daily life.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Reiki before, Reiki is an old-fashioned healing technique originating from Japan. Its name is combined of the word Rei, meaning universal, and Ki, meaning energy.
As the name suggests, Reiki is a practice which influences and channels the energy that surrounds us all, and aids in relaxation and de-stressing our mind, body and spirit.
The founder of Reiki, Dr Usui, developed 5 principles that embodied the philosophy of Reiki and I think, even if you have no intention of experiencing Reiki in your life at all, they are still good to know and can still have an impact on your life.
Just for today, do not worryLike it or not, stress and worry are part of our lives and will likely be for a long time. The issues comes when we experience these emotions on a consistent basis. This starts to change the way we think and perceive the world around us. Learning to consistently let go of these emotions, even for a short amount of time, can have a huge impact on mindfulness and wellbeing.
Just for today, do not be angryAnger, like stress and worry, is another emotion we are prone to in life. Like a heavy backpack, angry weighs us down and puts additional load on our physical and mental wellbeing. Learning to let go of this can help us process our emotions in a more rational manner and concentrate more on how we solve our issues instead.
Count your many blessingsNo matter how bleak life may seem, there is always something to be thankful for. Learning to appreciate the positive aspects of your life helps put things into a much clearer perspective. A great first steppingstone to healing.
Do your work honestlyHonest work gives you a consistent source of pride and belonging. An honest day’s work is nothing but beneficial to ourselves and the wider society.
Be kind to all living thingsThis should be the simplest of all. It takes little effort to be kind to other people and animals and in doing so you are a lot more likely to receive kindness in return. Realise that ultimately, we all share a common goal, to survive and thrive in our short time on this planet.
