This blog describes the remarkable journey of one of our clients who has experienced the first chapter of care at Peak Chiropractic and the profound impact it has had on his life. This clinical case highlights the effectiveness of our work at Peak in enabling individuals to live the lives they desire.

Meet Andrew

Andrew is an engineer, business owner, farmer, and parent. His physically active lifestyle includes daily lifting of heavy items for his engineering job and a history of accidents. When Andrew first visited our clinic, he was suffering from right-sided sciatic pain that impaired his ability to walk and work. Compounding his struggles, his right knee frequently gave way, necessitating the use of a knee brace for daily life.

The Initial Consultation and Assessment

ing Andrew’s initial consultation, we identified the root causes of his back and knee pain. Our assessment revealed that the muscles in his right hip and knee were inhibited. An inhibited muscle is one that is not functioning properly but has the potential to do so. This dysfunction affects the muscle's ability to stabilize joints. In Andrew's case, his quadriceps muscle was inhibited, leading to instability in his right knee and pelvis, which caused symptoms in both areas.

Journey to Recovery

First Month

Within the first month of care, Andrew noticed a significant decrease in knee pain, allowing him to stop using the knee brace and work without worrying about his knee. However, his hip began to feel sore, which we expected. This soreness was due to the activation of muscles in his right leg that had been dormant, as his brain and nervous system adapted to the new, improved function.

Second Month

During a mini progress visit in the second month, we monitored Andrew's progress. His balance, lung function (measured by his forced expiratory volume), and grip strength all improved, indicating better coordination between his brain and body. By the end of the second month, Andrew's right leg and lower back symptoms were resolved and no longer troubled him.

Third Month

By the end of chapter one, Andrew's symptoms no longer disrupted his life, enabling him to take on the Leaden Boot Challenge. This 26.2-mile walk, with a 4800-foot ascent and descent, starts and finishes at the White Peak village of Alstonefield. Andrew's ability to complete this challenge with minimal consequences showcased the significant progress he made from where he started.

Reflection

Andrew’s journey with us exemplifies the impact of tailored treatment, dedication, and trust. By attending sessions twice a week, Andrew was able to continue living his life free from the hindrance of pain. We are proud to have been part of his recovery and are committed to helping others achieve similar success, whatever their goals may be.
