Knowledge is power and why you should never stop learning.
Every week me and the team spend hours outside of our busy practice times learning, growing and improving.
This is why we can confidently say every client who sees us for an initial consultation receives one of, if not the most in-depth assessments they will ever have.
Which to many may sound big headed and for a long time and partially still now it does to me. I still find it hard to say out loud now, even though I know it to be true.
If you take just the neck for example, many clinicians, chiropractors, physio etc will only assess 5 main nerves. These are the 5 peripheral nerves traveling from your neck down your arm. We know most only assess these 5 because at some point in our careers so did we, as that's the general standard.
The problem with this is, there are more than 23 nerves from the neck alone. 7 from the cervical plexus and 16 from the brachial plexus. That's before we get into the 12 cranial nerves.
Far too often we hear about clinicians who diagnose umbrella terms many people have heard from google or alike such as “rotator cuff tears” or “tennis elbow”. They are then poorly managed for 6 sessions normally leaving the client in a similar situation they started in only with much less hope their symptoms can be resolved and less trust in the professions job to deliver on what they say.
This problem stems from clinicians' poor understanding and application of the fundamental anatomy and physiology, and their wants and desires to fix everybody in a couple sessions despite no scientific backing.
This ultimately affects the client the most which is the most upsetting part, contributing to the declining health of our population.
Through knowledge, understanding and trust those who deserve clients can receive the best type of care and we can make changes to people’s lives.
