Healing Myth 11

The title of this blog is not my original words but taken from a book ‘Healing myths. Healing Magic’.
In recent weeks I have had many conversations with our clients about how emotions can affect our health and manifest in pain and illness. Then last week Drew recommended a book that could not fit better into what we have been discussing with clients.
There are many myths about disease and healing and very often we tend to ( or have been conditioned) to believe that our health is solely a sum of lifestyle, genes or luck. The aspect of emotional and spiritual health contributing or even creating illness is somehow pushed into the realm of religion and outdated beliefs.
But that is one of the big myths of healing. The myth that’ every disease or illness can be traced to a physical cause’.
As we go through life things happen. We experience good and bad things, loss, trauma, fear, stress, worry, loneliness. The list can go on and on. At the same time we are conditioned to cope, to ‘deal with emotions’ and ‘fix’ any health problems that would manifest in a physical way using science.
However, more recently scientists suggest that with every emotion that we experience, certain tissues, including nerve cells and white blood cells, vibrate at particular frequency associated with a chemical attaching to the surface of the cell. Candace Pert, Ph.D. biochemist and author of many highly acclaimed research studies stated in one of her books, ‘ We no longer think of emotions as having les validity than physical, material substance, but instead must see them as cellular signals that are involved in the process of translating information into physical reality, literally transforming mind into matter. Emotions are the nexus between mind and matter, going back and forth between the two and influencing both’.
If we look at the emotions in that way then it only makes sense that they will affect our physical health. And sometimes it is not your physical body that needs healing, but ‘what’s eating you’ is what needs addressing.
This is why at the clinic we want to know not only about your symptoms but we want to get to know you as a person and look into what can affect your health. Sometimes we may recommend you nutritionionist or a functional dentist but there are times when we suggest that you go see a hypnotherapist that will help you deal with loss of loved one, divorce, trauma so that by healing your mind, your body can start healing.
Sometimes it is important to ask yourself a question: Is my pain, lack of health affecting how I feel or is how I feel, how stressed I am with work, how much I have pushed grief back, or worry to the back of my mind that is affecting my health?
Body and mind work together and one cannot be separated from the other.
At Peak Chiropractic we are not afraid to challenge healing myths. We are here to serve you in the best way possible so that you can live in optimal health, fully enjoying life.
